The Ham & High newspaper runs a monthly column from myself and each year I have the slot just before Christmas – for which, after all the serious pieces, I have my annual little bit of fun: the Christmas Fairy Tale.

Of course some people think this is terribly out of order and MPs should be terribly dour and serious all the time (hello diary columnists!), to which I say – as every year – bah humbug!
